South East Lecture Meeting
20 March 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
An Exploration of Japanese inspired Outdoor Living Gardens – Howard Healy
The afternoon will be kicked off by our member Howard Healy. As many of you know Howard runs a small family business which has been specialising in the design and construction of Japanese inspired gardens for 29 years. His garden centre in Kent offers an extensive range of stone products including lanterns as well as plants and has some small tranquil show gardens. Howard’s talk will focus on three gardens he has designed on a Japanese theme all of which reflect how we can see our gardens as an extension of our indoor living space.
Please note – Howard will welcome questions during his talk. We hope to make the afternoon really interactive.
5pm Hammersmith Park updates. Richard Moore from Friends of Hammersmith Park will update us on recent developments in this garden which is the legacy of the 1910 Anglo-Japanese exhibition being part of the Garden of Peace constructed at that time.
Richard who works as a Botanical horticulturist at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, graduated from Pershore College in 2017 with a first class BSc in Horticulture and has also trained at the Portland Japanese Garden in US as well as spending time at Kairakuen garden in Ibaraki Prefecture. He will be talking about the current proposals for a long term renovation project at Hammersmith Park which aims to engage the local community.
5.30pm Members Forum – a chance to connect with other attendees in small breakout groups. A suggested discussion topic will br be provided but above all this is a chance to catch up with each other, provide us with feedback and ideas for future activities etc.
