SUMMARY:National Lecture and 2025/26 AGM
DESCRIPTION:This Zoom meeting starts promptly at 10am with the 2026 Annual General Meeting. This is an opportunity for members to learn about JGS’s activities during 2025/6 and for them to shape the Society’s future. The 2026 JGS National Lecture follows immediately after this business meeting. \nNational Lecture – Japanese folk houses and their landscape\nJames Irvine from Kominka UK will explore the craft\, materials and cultural landscape of traditional Japanese timber buildings\, and the relationships between architecture\, place and their safekeeping. \nKominka UK (www.kominka.co.uk ) is building bridges between Japan and the United Kingdom through traditional architecture\, craftsmanship and cultural exchange. From rural farmhouses to shrines and temple gates\, Japanese timber buildings embody centuries of accumulated knowledge\, careful stewardship and extraordinary skill. They are more than historic structures – they are living expressions of culture and place. \nWorking alongside our partners in Japan (www.kominkacollective.com)\, we believe traditional buildings have much to teach us about sustainability\, craftsmanship and our relationship with the natural world. In some cases\, our work includes the careful dismantling and relocation of buildings\, allowing them to begin a new chapter while honouring their original story.

SUMMARY:JGS Midland Region - Danescourt  Japanese garden maintenance workshop
DESCRIPTION:Come and help us to maintain this lovely hidden gem of a Japanese garden in Wolverhampton. \nWe have monthly maintenance days on the first Saturday of the month from May to October.  No experience is required as our JGS members will be happy to guide you in all aspects of keeping this garden looking good\, from simple weeding to more challenging pine pruning and topiary.

The Japanese garden was designed and built primarily by regional members in 2004.\nWorking on site will give you a great opportunity to learn some of the skills required to keep a Japanese garden in good order; there is expert tuition in pruning and shaping trees and shrubs\, gravel raking\, stone- and timber-work and even humble weeding! If you are thinking of joining the JGS and you live in the area\, why not come along to see what we do\, perhaps plan your own garden\, or learn how to keep it in great condition. If you are new member or a potential member please let us know that you are coming so that we can arrange for someone to meet you.\nDo join in!
