JGS South East Garden Visit
We are delighted to invite JGS members from all regions to join us on Saturday 24th October between 11.30 and 3.00pm for an Autumn visit to the Japanese Garden in Cottered. Some of you will have already visited this wonderful garden which was first developed in the early twentieth century by Herbert Goode. Inspired by his travels to Japan he sought guidance from Professor Seyemon Kusamoto who also helped design the famous garden in Japan, Koraku-en.
Many of the original features of this garden have been restored in recent years and since the last visit by JGS members in May 2025 the “dripping pond” cascade around the bottom pond has been rebuilt and nearby pathways re-laid. In addition the current owner tells us ‘we also took the opportunity to move the 1928 metal torii arch that had been repositioned years ago in that area back to its original position in front of the Shinto shrine, where it is much more suited. When repositioning it we even found the buried, original metal supports that were at the foot of the arch, so we know it has gone back into the exact same spot as when the garden was first built!’
Joining details were sent already to all members. If you did not receive a joining email and would like to visit please contact sesec@jgs.org.uk.
