JGS SE Chrysanthemum Talk

Chrysanthemums are the star of autumn and Ivor Mace from the Chrysanthemum Society will be giving a talk about them.
Ivor, now retired, was a professional gardener and has been growing chrysanthemums since 1972, and showing his chrysanthemums extensively. Here’s what Ivor told us about his chrysanthemum journey: “My chrysanthemum growing exploits have put me in touch with growers overseas and I have given talks in China, New Zealand and the USA. I have won the Large Exhibition Championship of Great Britain 25 times and have had the best exhibit at the National Show 17 times.”
Ivor will give a brief history of the chrysanthemum in the UK and although he hasn’t been to Japan himself, he knows a man that has. Using his photos he can compare how hybridisers from Japan and the UK have developed sections of chrysanthemums that look totally different to each other. The talk will conclude with cultural details on growing chrysanthemums.
